Our next Challenger for SB5 2015 are no doubt familiar to everyone in the world of Italian and European Beach 5s Rugby. Indeed their conquests in Lignano are approaching legendary status, having captured the SB5 title on 2 previous occassions. First in 2010 and then again in 2013. They bring a unique italian intensity to the Arena and present allcomers with a fearsome challenge. We’re honoured to announce our 3rd Challenger for SB5 2015 – “ I Pessimi”.
2014 was a mixed year for the boys from Lazio. While on the up-side, they retained their Italian National title, on the downside however, when their squad travelled to the Barcelona Beach 5s, success eluded them by some margin. Interestingly they also didn’t take up their option to return to Lignano to defend their 2013 SB5 title.
Indeed they may have watched last years final with a rueful smile as Ovale Beach Marseille, the team they defeated in 2013, were crowned 2014 SB5 Champions. But if the truth be told, the French were in awesome form last season and so who knows whether even I Pessimi could have halted the EBRA Series Champions.
As they say, that was then and this is now. I Pessimi’s return to the Arena in 2015 is much anticipated. With a new look team boasting a fresh crop of Beach 5s specialists, if they do overcome the challenges that will face them this summer, these guys could see themselves joining former rivals, Maccarese, in the SB5 Hall of Fame as the only 2 teams to who have won 3 titles in the Lignano Beach Arena.
However, as all great Champions know, nothing is a given at the spiritual home of SUPER BEACH 5’s. You have to earn the right.
