They say it’s always better late than never!

In the excitement and mayhem leading up to the 1st European Cup Final weekend at Lignano Sabbiadoro on 14th & 15th July, one important piece of news slipped through our office without publication.

It relates to the Figueira International Beach Rugby tournament in Portugal, which was staged on 7th/8th July, the week before the Lignano event.

[frame align=”left”]Direito Rugby[/frame]As one of the 4 “Home” legs in the first 2012 European Beach Rugby Championship, we are grateful to Rui Loureiro, Figueira’s tournament organiser and founding member of EBRA, who has kindly forwarded us details of what was a fantastic weekend for Portuguese Beach Rugby.

Not only were the 2 finalists at the Figueira tournament, Direito Rugby and CDUL, both from Portugal, the Caparica Sharks also from Portugal finished in 4th place. Indeed it was only the Ghent Magnets from Belgium who managed to break the total domination of the Portuguese squads by finishing in a well deserved 3rd place overall.

As for the final, while it was a tightly contested match, it was the strength and stamina of the Direito squad that ultimately helped them forge their way to victory!

Congratulations to Direito – 2012 Figueira International Champions.
